Geology/Geotechnical assessment – all mines require the services of a geologist and geotechnical engineer (sometimes combined in the one individual and frequently on a contract basis) to assess strata control requirements and forecast strata/stress conditions, coal quality, etc.

Survey – essential for aligning drivages, plotting accurate locations of all mining, preparation of plans, etc

Human Resources – support for all aspects of personnel is required as for any industrial organization, with a particular emphasis on safety and training.

Finance – also as for any industrial organization, a range of financial support is required from handling weekly pay to long term financial planning.
