Seam Access Types
There are 4 main types of seam access from the surface
- Adits, which go directly into the seam, or nearly so, from an outcrop. This type includes accesses directly into a seam from a highwall in an open cut mine, actually a man=made outcrop
- Vertical shafts
- Drifts or inclined shafts
- Drifts with a change of direction (often a spiral and often called declines)
